Title: Paeonia lactiflora 'Jan Van Leeuwen'
Post by: greenfinger on May 20, 2007, 09:28:56 AM
Developed by Van Leeuwen in 1928. Considered as a superhealthy and one of the best single flowered border peonies. Doesn't need supporting. Now at its best. Height: 90 cm.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL.
Ive just had a look at the original you sent me on gmail, and it very high quality. I'll be adding to the Master Database so all members can see it when they get their next copy.

Now, I'm REALLY interested in a Peonia of ANY description that doesn't need staked.
I think it spoils the whole appearance when such beauty is surrounded by stakes. (Mine are usually a bit crude - gotta do something with the armfuls of "light prunings")
Tell us more about that specimen, please. How old is it to reach those proportions, Is it in your garden?

Just a specimen in the Botanical Garden of Leuven. Height +/- 1 meter. Picture speaks for itself. Don't know the age.
