We have the red version of this and though it always sets lots of seed, none of it comes up as A. canadensis. The plants are always crosses with the other Aquilegias in the garden. Very sad really.

How tall are your Aquilegias guys?
Ive seen nice short ones - approx. 18ins which I really admired.
Ive never managed to produce anything like that.
Mine (mostly Aquilegia vulgaris - self seeding with abandon) are 3ft at least. Ive a new batch from last years (purchased) seed - again a supposedly shorter variety.
Planted out and now have fingers crossed.

why sad? it's very true . all aquilegias tend to hybridize with each other very easily and quickly too. but the "frankenteins" which come out are amazing sometimes and quite personal....

Sad because we really do not like the wishy washy colour we get and the hundreds of hard to remove seedlings which come up everywhere. One of those plants which we spent more time getting rid of, than trying to keep. Would be nice to have more A. canadensis grow.
