Every garden should have them, so its a good reference document.

Now we've started this topic, what Poppies are favourites of our members?
Personally, I love the Ladybird annuals (Papaver commutatum)  .
This year, I'm growing them and Papaver rhoeas ?Angels Choir? Mixed or ?Dawn Chorus' from Chiltern Seeds.
Its been so wet I grew them in the greenhouse and now have them repotted ready for planting out.
I believe the name for them on the RHS database is Papaver rhoeas Angels' Choir Group

Our favourites at the moment (mainly because they're the only ones we have) are Oriental Poppies.

Early last year we planted 'Turkenlouis', which I posted photos of recently, 'Coral Pink' (Kathy sowed from seed) and 'Manhattan variety - Patty's Plum''.  The plants were a Gardeners' World offer.  They didn't flower last year, just got the foliage.

We planted all three in the front and rear gardens.  Only 'Turkenlouis' and 'Coral Pink' have flowered in both gardens this year.  For some reason the other two haven't flowered at all.  And lots of seeds were planted in the same area and at the correct depth.  ???

They are about 3 to 4 feet in height and the blooms are about 5 inches across in each case and look beautiful.

Yes, it certainly is a picture, Malcolm.
Is it an annual?

Cant comment on why those two varieties havent flowered for you Kathy and Laurie. The orientale species is pretty much everlasting in my garden. Perhaps they need time to establish a little more before they give their best for you.

Beautiful photo Malcolm. It is very difficult to take reds and this is perfect. It is very easy to overexpose. Well done.

To illustrate what I mean, here is a red tulip but it has this white overexposed area at the top right.
