Lonesome tree in Burley, New Forest

Walking around Burley a few days ago we came across this tree.

It looked so lonely stuck here on its own.  There were other trees nearby but this one stood out in a small clearing.  Some time in the past it has lost the top part, and if you really look it appears to be holding out one of its branches in a plea to be saved.

It otherwise looked pretty solid, so it could either have been a lightning strike or strong winds.  A powerful force of nature whatever the reason to break that tree apart.

Just following through your interesting trees, Laurie I have just noticed that nobody seems to be commenting on them. I find them fascinating.

It's really strange what some people will comment on - or not  ::)

As you have gathered Eric, I have a real passion for the environment Kathy & I are now living in, which was our reason for coming here.

Not everyone shares this passion, but I thought the unusual shape of some of the trees we come across may spark some interest.

Anyway, thanks for your nice comments Eric, and it's great that you appreciate nature's quirks  ;D
