I'm planning to go a plant-huntin' in the local Nurseries this year. I'm planning to remove the things I dont like and make way for new.
I'd very much appreciate your recommendations - what are your favourite perennials?

Those which survive!

Yes, that would be a bonus.
I'm very interested in anything that gives a long flowering period.

For me it depends on a number of things:
*Shape desired of the plant
*Size desired
*Foliage needs (color, shape, etc.)
*Time of bloom (can be influence on time of year such areas/plants will be seen)
*Sunlight- the the CA Central Vallley it is quite different than the nearby Sierra or Bay Area so I need to be cautious as to recs on "full" or "part sun."

Hi-
George started this question and maybe I should start a new post but it fit what I was going to ask but with some specific needs. I need two accent plants (eye catching) that use more than just foliage but also have a noticeable flower. If anyone has any ideas, here are some needs:
* Evergreen perennials
*Can take California sunshine in the Valley (not the same as humid sunshine in many areas or even that of coastal areas of CA)
*Outline of plant should be similar to a fountain grass (but I don't want fountain grass)
I've been tossing ideas around but nothing jumps out as "right." There are some nice lavenders where the grayish foliage would look nice next to the brick that frame this bed but lavender probably will not approach that fountain shape/outline and might not have the pizazz that's needed for an accent plant (although the bluish flowers are nice and they can bloom a great deal).
Thanks,
Scott
