Using the Magic seeder: Lesson 1
« on: August 19, 2009, 09:41:03 PM »
As you know, Phil (roihil on the forum) has been appointed the sole distributor in southern ireland for the magic seeder, which you can read about on his site http://www.magicseeder-ie.com/.
He asked on the forum for volunteers, and of course up went my hand.

Heres a pictorial chain of events in the trial.
First I started gathering some seed from nearby poppies. Soon the help arrived!

Ahhh.. I know what THAT is... its a Magic seeder!

Let me help you get some seed...

Hey! Look what came out of that seed pod :o

OK, pass that device over to me, and I'll show you how its done :)

I wanted to play with it first :'(

The lesson begins

Pay attention Papa, heres how its done...

Its easy, I can do it with one hand. Look :)

Its even a good toy! Hands up!

Job done. No sign of anything growing yet, Papa

Lesson ends. Now I can have a go:

My son took the photos - over 200 of them. He got carried away with my new camera.
Put it in sport mode and took a few "action shots". Brilliant
After that photoshoot, he asked me to take sport mode shots of his golf swing. So, up the garden we went and I obliged.

Thought you'd be glad to hear I got to testing the Magic Feeder Phil.
It was very good for the Poppy seeds. They were perfect for the test (after I'd been shown how to use it properly, of course).

very good, sometimes one needs the experience of a younger generation  ;D, thats why my eldest lad is an apprentice mechanic and the other wants to be a panel beater so one can fix my jeep  ;) and the other can sort any dents out that may appear  ;)  ;D

Make your dad proud there Julian and take good care of his seedlings whilst he's away.  We don't want to make George an unhappy little camper  :D

Interesting stuff George.

Will send you some Asplenium Nidus spores for you to try with your new toy ;)

Love your garden and the hardwork you put in !

Thanks for the kind comments all.

By way of update, all those seedlings have been a terrific success :D
Trays and trays of poppies of all descriptions for next year!

I also sowed a packet of Aubrieta.
I placed the multi pocket seedling tray along with the others and forgot about them.
I noticed that some of the poppies had "strange leaves" and then I remembered!
A very good hit rate! Now I have a lovely batch of plants for providing a spring display. I love  Aubrieta and every year I wish I had more of them in the garden. Genie grants my wish again
