New Labels - Avery L7060 Heavy Duty for Laser Printer
« on: April 27, 2010, 02:56:50 PM »
These labels are for Heavy Duty Avery label stock designed for use with a Laser Printer

You can have a go generating and printing on plain A4 paper

Download these:

http://www.ideasgenie.com/updates-igpro/igpro-fileset-ende.exe
and

http://www.ideasgenie.com/updates-igpro/GA048-dl.exe

When installed, start GA048 (under Labels tab)
Should indicate Version 32 (or later)

You should be able to select L7060  labels from the popup.

Continue to make up a set of labels (3x7=21 per sheet)

Click Print in Preview mode. Then close the preview screen.
What time are you seeing in the timer value field between the Delete and Save buttons?

Thanking you in anticipation!

Test completed George, using the full set of 21 labels on an A4 sheet of paper.

Pressing the Print button showed a time of 100 secs in the box at the bottom.  When the actual print preview menu popped up, the time in the box changed to show 86 secs.  This is the time it actually took for the pop-up to appear, as checked with a stopwatch.

My that was real fast response, Laurie 8)

As for label generation times, on my computer I'm recording times between 18 and 22 secs and its no high performer :)
Dont know why there is such a difference, as yet.
Since the labels can be of such high standards I hope its worth the wait for all users.

The labels generation times are baffling me too.  ???

I've got a brand new PC with the latest fast CPU and 6GB RAM.

I would expect lightning speeds.

All other programs I use open and respond instantly.  Especially my graphics programs which are normally memory hoggers and need fast processing times, compared to using them on my slower and now defunct Windows XP PC which crashed a while back (as you know only too well George.)

Awaiting with baited breath to see if a solution develops.

Ga048 ver. 32 LABELS test L7060:

I filled entire 'Paste 1' area with solid text data of same plant. The timing to preview was 502 seconds.
However on print out, the label mesures 9 lines down with a width(L-R) of 2-1/4" with default setting,
so there was plenty of text that didn't get printed. This is for a full sheet of  21 labels.

I would assume that you would want to indicate margins of text area on various Paste areas, so I could only
apply text to the label area itself. If I had those 'margins' then I would assume the speed would have been faster.

I'm using US paper for pinting.

Does this help?

The margins are trial and error, I'm afraid, as it also depends on the fonts and font sizes you use.
That screen where you edit the label data is now used by at least four labels of different sizes.
It would be too much work maintaining multiple copies of the same screen, particularly since it is still being tweaked and optimised.

I don't think the margins would have any impact on print/preview times.

Any paper will do for the test.
Since  US paper is wider, you will get all 3 across. However, you may lose a little on the 7th row of labels, since US paper sizes are shorter.

I did two more tests:

1st - 9 lines of text, that fit well within borders of label = 502 seconds, all 21 labels same.
2nd - 1 line of text, well with borders of label = 443 seconds, all 21 labels same.
Both tests using default type setting.

Point of interest:
On the 506 second test, I did not have 'wheel in the middle' or pulsating gizmo at the top of the screen.
On the 502 second test,  I DID have the 'wheel in the middle' and the pulsating gizmo.
On the 443 second test, I did not have 'wheel in the middle' and the pulsating gizmo.

The guy who designed the "Gizmo" is an IT Manager from the Philippines.
His name is Jun Tangunan and he is a member of the Developers forum I frequent- http://www.foxite.com - one of the best in the world 8)

Jun calls the class (computer lingo) a Throbber. It was very easy to work this class into my program.

You can read about Throbber here:
http://weblogs.foxite.com/sandstorm36/archive/2009/03/10/7892.aspx

I don't think it has any significant overhead in adding time to the labels generation process, but Ive made a program change so you can do a test.

Download this:
http://www.ideasgenie.com/updates-igpro/GA048-dl.exe
When installed, should indicate Version 33 (or later)

(You don't need to do the Labelcds download again)

When you get to the screen GA048S02 you will find a new check box called Throbber, just beside the Preview button.
By default it is checked.
Do a test with it OFF Toby (i.e. un-checked), and see if it makes any difference to your crazy processing time.
