done lesson 2 all went well until i came to save, it would not save kept on asking for a plant type, so into Files Plant Types GAO18 click on it screen GAO18S01 appears, click on add a new plant type and in the next screen i added Vegetables in top box Then Veg in lower box and save, then re open the plant you were working on (you had to close it down without saving the first time) and in plant group dropdown will be vegetables, select vegetables

and follow georges instructions and have fun

Yip, I didn't describe that bit, so thats useful.
Ive defined the plant type as Vegetable (using GA018)
I see some seed suppliers who describe Veg as Annuals, so its up to the user.

Another tip:
If editing, and you don't have the correct plant type, then use one of the existing ones and save.
Then use GA018, add the required plant type, go back and edit the plant and correct the plant type. Saves losing data by cancelling without saving.

Vegetables Brassicas - cabbages etc
Vegetables Roots - onions carrots etc
Vegetables Legumes - peas and beans
Vegetables Potatoe- potatoe

Fruit Tomatoe - Tomatoes are fruit i beleive any corrections most welcome

George:

I'm not progressing too far with Lesson 2 either;
When I get to: Copy the data. 'Click on Surf Board button, and paste the data into the surfboard'. My Surf Board image, which I have printed out as hard copy if you want to see it, at the top is: http://humeseeds/ sqshbnt. htm which I was using for my testing.
Then comes the text from the personal email which I had sent to you earlier this morning regarding Skype and Logitech Webcam, which I had copied from M/S Word via clipboard to send to you. (???)
Then comes text that looks like it might have been used in illustrated training sessions for Genie: (line for line)
http://www.mobot.org/gardeninghelp/plantfinder/Plant.asp?code=A337about:blank
Soil: Humus-rich, moist but well-drained
Aspect: Light dappled shade
Hardiness: Half hardy
http://www.rhs.org.uk/whatson/gardens/rosemoor/archive/rosemoorpom05apr.asp

Look familiar?
I've tried clearing all of this text from the Surf Board, but I can't. I can't get my copy to appear.

1)
Quote
at the top is: http://humeseeds/ sqshbnt. htm which I was using for my testing.
Did you click the + button?
If yes, that that has worked.
The URL has been copied to the surfboard, and as the Lesson states,it adds it to the very top of the text in the surfboard.
When you get back to GA100S40, you can copy that line, and paste it into the Plant Data field.
Let me know if you succeed with that.

(2)
Next the other text
Thats the data that was copied ONTO your clipboard BEFORE you started to use GA027.
You must have copied it when you sent my email.

When you use edit, Select then Copy etc, the data is copied to the clipboard.
Unlike the surfboard in IG Pro, the clipboard is not visible, and cant be edited, or added to.
The data is held in memory (called the clipboard)
What went wrong in 2?

Looks like you didnt copy the data in the website you were visiting.
You pasted OK (and the data you pasted was old data on the clipboard), but you hadnt copied from the web site you were viewing before pasting.
So, keep on trying with Copy and Paste.
Shortcuts:
Ctrl-C= Copy (highlight the data first to select it)
Ctrl-V= Paste
Ctrl-X= Cut (you can clear the SURFBOARD with that - again, select (highlight) the data you want to cut first)

NOTE: When you copy, the data is added to the CLIPBOARD. You are holding it there in memory until you use it somewhere.
Guess where you use it? When you PASTE into the Surfboard (in this instance)
Make sense?

Oh not at all,

I have been coughing and hacking so much, it is exhausting so I actually have not done much at all. My computer is always booted up in the morning and I have my my windows with the latest taps always open automatically. So it very often looks like I am logged on but in truth I might be nursing my flu, or wash dishes etc. >lol<

I did once do the google thing and the google window coming up in my page looked like greek or russian orthodox lettering to me. The search links were whatever language they came from, but the window certainly was neither english or german.
My google on Firefox Browser looks just normal. Only the one in IGPro looks funny.
I couldn't figure out how to do a screen shot of it to send to you, otherwise I would have shared it with you.

How do I add a screen shot to a post anyway? I looked at all the buttons above and I did not figure out which one I should use?

Sounds like you really are under the weather, Isabell
Get well soon!

Do you have Internet Explorer (IE) on your computer?
If you don't, then the Google search in IG pro will not work.
Google button search creates an instance of IE inside IG Pro screen.

If you do, what version is it? (Click Help-> About Internet Explorer to find out)

Posting photos, click Additional Options (below left the text region while you type a message)
Then click Browse to find an image
It must be less than 125kb.

You can resize photos using Tools-> Resize Photos - GA051 on the IG pro menu.
We've just finished taking Toby through the steps to use that program, and posting an image on the forum.
Heres the topic:

So I am trying to add this picture of the IGpro google screen here, also did you get my message about resetting license?

I do have the Internet Explorer and the google seems to work it does show search links, only it does have funny lettering included, unlike my firefox browser google searches.

I can see EXACTLY what you have done.

Look in the popup bottom right of the page.
You have selected google.gr
i.e. google Greek  :D
That WOULD explain why you are getting "strange" characters from "strange" websites (unless you happen to be Greek of course)

Solution is simple.
Change that pop-up to google.com and click the Set button.
That will direct your queries to google.com.
The Set button will set this as default so you can use it every time to do a Google search from IG Pro

In your case, you may prefer to use google.de (German)

Good thing is, you've highlighted another nice IG Pro feature Isabell and made other members aware of it.

RE: Resetting licence
We will deal with that by email

First I thought, Oh, how could I have missed it.
but now I tried to select the google.com and this are my choices I see

I have
google.be/belgian
google.co.uk/english
google.com.sg/singapore
google.de/germany
google.es/espanol
google.gr/greek
google.ie/irish
google.nl/dutch
google.no/norsk

maybe my google.com/us is missing? Where did it go?
I actually prefer to look for information at the google.com/us google, instead the german because the information I find is more suited to my climate. Occasionally I look at the german info if I am looking for specific information

The popup list should read (in this order):
google.be
google.co.uk
google.com
google.com.sg
google.de
google.es
google.gr
google.ie
google.nl
google.no

Yours is google.com and you'll probably like google.de
Please confirm that you can see google.com.

Darn, I just was going to share what I was doing and how I am progressing. But when I wanted to use the symbol for temperature using Alt 248, everything got lost the post field just went away. Can I not use this feature when I write here?

I see if I can get it back together, bummer I was almost done writing and I don't have much time to get it done.

Here we go again :(

I am not sure if you George are waiting for me until I am done with the vegetable data input using the google feature, but I have so many vegetables in there I don't think I could get it done that quick, especially before my growing season starts again.
I do have a few of the vegetables done with data using the google copy/paste feature,
not that I don't think it is not useful, but I think I need to input the data first which I need for the new season first and I have this wonderful book "The Kitchen Garden Grower's Guide" by Stephen Albert, which has all the data I need to know, so I decided I will use it to find the growing info.

So instead I have been working on the file program GA003S01 and deleted the cultural grades I did not need for vegetables and added or changed Cultural requirements using the information from the book, then after that I am going through the book again for each vegetable and then set up the cultural requirement in the profile. That should give me the most important information in a precise, short form.

So here are my new and changed cultural grades:
*Application > grades: Cold Greenhouse, warm Greenhouse, cold frame, raised bed, pot culture, Herb Garden, Vegetable Garden
*Container growing > grades: yes, no
*Crop Rotation > grades: Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D, Group E, Group F,
*days to germination > grades: 5-7 days, 10-14 days, 14-18 days.......
*days to maturity > grades: 40 days, 60 days, 90 days, 120 days
*disease problems > grades: mildew, scap, yellows, leaf spot
*Flowering time > grades: early spring, mid spring, late spring....same for the other seasons
* Frost tolerance > grades: yes, no, I also will add temperature grades to this as I come across them
*Germinating soil temperature > grades: 40-55, 40-75, 50-65, ........here I got quite a few, because so many vegetables are specific in that
*growing form> grades: Bush, Pole, upright, low, spreading, determinate, indeterminate, vine
*growing soil temperature > grades: 50-65, 40-70, .......
* hardiness zones >I kept that as is
*Harvest > grades: plump, seeds harden, tender, enlarged, succession, start 40 days after sowing, start 60 days after sowing .....
*Heat tolerance > grades: yes, no, shade when hot,
*Pest problems > grades: snails, aphids, flea beetles, white fly, cabbage moth
*planting depth > grades: crown just above soil level, 6" deep, .....
*plant outdoor after last frost > grades: 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 weeks.....
*plant outdoor before last frost > grades: 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 week, 6 week
*plant outdoor before 1st frost > grades: 3 week, 4 week, 5 week, .....
*propagation methods > grades: seed, herbaceous cutting, off shoots/suckers,
*Root depth > grades: shallow, medium deep, deep
*Seed collecting > grades: sterile seed, dry on plant, dry in dry area, ......
*Seed depth > grades: 1/4", !/4-1/5", 1/4-1/2", 1/2", 1/5".......
*Seed life > grades: 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, 6 years, ......
*Seed indoor after last frost > grades: 1 week, 2 week, 3 week, ........
*Seed indoor Before 1st Frost > grades: 2 week, 3 week, 4 week.......
* Seed indoor before last Frost > grades: 2 week, 4 week, 6 week
*Seed outdoor after last frost > grades: 1 week, 2 week.......
*Seed outdoor before 1st frost >grades: 2 week, 4 week.....
*Seed outdoor before last frost > grades: As soon as soil can be worked, 2 week, 3 week, .....
*soil ph > grades: left that as is
*Soil type > grades: added a few like Well drained, humus rich, well manured, consistent moist, fertile
*spacing in sowing > grades: 1/2", 1 ", 2".......12',
*spacing in thinning > grades: 1 1/2", 2"......12"
*spacing in transplanting > grades: 6", 12", 1' 6", 4'
*sunlight requirements > grades: added....8 hours or more sun,
*succession sowing > grades: every 2 week, every 3 week, .......
* transplant outdoor age > grades: 4-6 week, 6-8 week, .....
* transplant outdoor temperature > grades: above 50, above 60, above 70, below 75.......
*Vegetable storage > grades: at 50 F, above 35, wrap in plastic, root cellar.....
*Water > grades: added ....moderate and even, evenly moist, light but not dry
*Winter planting > grades: Cold frame, Green house unheated, Green house heated, Outdoor in mild winter climate

So now all I have to do go through the book and add first the vegetables I need to start soon, so I can get started to be organized.
So if you want to proceed to the next lesson, go ahead. Please don't wait for me.

till later,
Isabell
