No, nothing you are doing wrong Malcolm.
Baffled by that.
Question: Did you manage to get into screen GA048S08 first time?

Phil:
Youve downloaded using Save.
Delete that file.
Do the download again and choose Run (I'm not sure if it is Run with Vista, but in any event dont choose Save)
Have a look at the steps in the instructions again.
Good luck!

I am getting confused now, in my post above I said I got to GA048S03 after clicking on Edit in GA048S02, did I make a mistake by saying I got to GA048S03 ?

You can get to GA048S03 if you select any other label other that that Orion #311-54C one we are dealing with.
If you select Orion #311-54C then you get to GA048S08, the new screen with the rich text.
Did you get to the Rich text screen? (theres a screenshot further back in this topic)
If yes then you were in GA048S08 and if you managed to get in there before then I'm puzzled if you cant get back in again

If you are still having that problem, try rebooting your computer, Malcolm, and see if that helps.

1 Download:
GA048

Thanks for all your help guys.
Its frustrating when things go wrong, but its good if I can get them addressed at this early stage.

I must have chosen the wrong label then George to get to GA048S03

The computer has been restarted and I can confirm I still have the same program error, and am using the correct label.

So I have never been able to get to GA048S08 with the rich text.

Have now taken ver23.

I have checked and richtx32.ocx is on my computer in c:\windows\system32 so the download for the rich text worked ok.

RE (Phil)
Quote
if i clicked on run it would have downloaded the normal way and not been able to save to desktop
If you click on Run in that particular download there are a number of dialog boxes during the Installation.
Look for the dialog box with the title:
Location to save files
Click the Change button and select your Desktop
Continue.

In your case (Vista)
When finished, look on your desktop for this file:
gkrichtext.msi
Right click on it
Click Run as Administrator

More information:
The download file is called: richtext-dl.exe
That file is a "carrier" and contains the file gkrichtext.msi, zipped up in the .exe file.
You are used to the file ?carried? in a download to be a program (e.g. GA048)
In this special case, the file carried is ALSO an installer, so the process has an extra step.

Heres the difference between choosing SAVE and choosing RUN.
The process applies to this particular (special) download.

1) The SAVE option
Step a) If you take the option (during download) to save it then the file with that name is saved on your computer.
You can save to a folder or save to Desktop

Step b) Locate the downloaded file (richtext-dl.exe ) in the location you chose to save it
VISTA USERS       : Right click on it, then click Run as Administrator
NON VISTA USERS: Double click on it
Look for the dialog box with the title:
Location to save files
Click the Change button and select your Desktop
That ?releases? the file (gkrichtext.msi ) from the ?carrier? and saves it on your desktop.

Step c) Locate the file gkrichtext.msi on the desktop
VISTA USERS       : Right click on it, then click Run as Administrator
NON VISTA USERS: Double click on it
That installs the file automatically

2) The RUN option
Step a) If you take the option (during download) to RUN
Look for the dialog box with the title:
Location to save files
Click the Change button and select your Desktop
That ?releases? the file (gkrichtext.msi ) from the ?carrier? and saves it on your desktop.

Step b) Locate the file gkrichtext.msi on the desktop
VISTA USERS       : Right click on it, then click Run as Administrator
NON VISTA USERS: Double click on it
That installs the file automatically

As you can see, the RUN option has one step less that the SAVE process.

Phil:
Try the original method

Malcolm:
Ive discovered a different version of richtx32.ocx

Heres a alternative method for installing that (older) version
Download this:
http://www.ideasforgardens.com/download/RICHTX32.zip
Save it to your desktop
After download, locate on desktop, and double click.
Extract the file richtx32.ocx to the Windows\System32 folder.
Choose to Overwrite existing file

See if that works.
If you still receive the error, register the RichTx32.ocx module using the following command (from Start, Run dialog):
regsvr32.exe %systemroot%\system32\RICHTX32.OCX
(Use copy and paste)
You should see the message
DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\system32\RICHTX32.OCX succeeded
after running the above command.

Is this the exact error message?
Quote
Error loading file record number 8 cmbold or one of its members>font Char set:Error with cmbold font char set expression evaluated to an illegal value

Do you get an option to ignore?
If yes, what is the next error (if any)

Keep pressing ignore.
Do you get screen GA048S08 to open?

Its working for Laurie and Toby
Heres a check for all to do to see if its a simple problem, to do with the Font I have chosen for that B= Bold button in screen GA048S08.

Open WORD
Type a few characters.
Click the Font pop-up (thats one of the Rich Text controls in WORD)
Do you have a Font called Elephant?

Ref the error message
You can't copy it so here goes

Error loading file-record number 8, cmdBold <or one of its members>, Font Char Set: Error with cmdBold-Font Char Set: Expression evaluated to an illegal value

I hope I have that correct, if any problem will do a screen capture as you have shown us.

Pressing ignore makes the  Programme error pop up go away, pressing edit again brings the pop up back in a never ending circle, never get to GA048S08

Malcolm
Regarding Word the font Elephant is not listed.

There may be a simple solution, Malcolm. Thanks for taking the time to decipher all that error message.
Dont do anything further (screenshot etc) until we hear from Laurie, Toby and Phil on this WORD/Font thing.

Thanks Toby
Now waiting for Laurie. I think we have identified the problem. I hope it is simply a matter of changing the font of the Bold button from Elephant to another more common font.

This is my first try with the Rich Text and the GA048 program using it. This is the Orion label that George has been working with you. My suggestion for use here is in a ?retail? setting, where plants might be sold as Malcom might do.

George is still going to have to do some tweaking with it, as you might notice, the text below the photos runs past the margin on the right side, also I have some trouble when I maximize the GA048S08 screen. I prefer working with it, but I don?t think it comes out at the same ratio as the minimized screen.

But, as George has indicated, this is definitely a program in its infancy, and there?s more and more to come!  To me it has been very exciting to see all of this come together and to observe the work on the GA048 UK program.

The Rich Text sure adds ?class?, I think it provides an opportunity to make good, professional Gardening labels. I don?t know of any gardening software program available, that has developed a labeling program like this.

Well Toby, I know from what George has told me is that you have been instrumental in getting these various labels features tested and working for the benefit of all of us.

Take pride in knowing that you are helping George to make his great programs even 'greater.'

You could call us all beta-testers I suppose, but it is this friendly interaction with George and each other that is making George's software development progress in leaps and bounds.  Long may it continue.  (That must be worth a brownie point George  :D )

Laurie.

"The Boss" has been just terrific. Hes full of enthusiasm and keeps me motivated.
He has moved the Labels project on in leaps and bounds.
Its really interesting to see how each of us apply the Richtext to do different presentations. I'm stunned once again by what Toby has done!
RE: Toby

the text below the photos runs past the margin on the right side
Thats something Ive wrestled with, but had to leave it for the time being.
Heres the workaround.
Do a preview and see where the text IS printed to
Edit the labels again.
Put cursor at beginning of first word which does NOT appear on the printed label.
Hit the Return (Enter) button, to create a line break.
Do that until the long text you have entered fits the label.
You can do that in any of the three text regions.
I will keep working on this to see if I can get the text to wrap automatically.

A whole bunch of Brownie points awarded to everybody involved Laurie. Its terrific to be able to gather so much invaluable feedback.

Thanks for confirming you have Elephant font installed. It looks like that is the problem.
Stand by for next update within the hour. Hopefully that will make it work for Malcolm and Phil.
