A New Flower

I am going to show you this flower, but I may have to take the picture away. This to me is a new colour form of Scilla sibirica. Now whether it is worth something or not I do not know, but I thought New Planr Guy might be able to advise.

Yes, it appeared last year, but now looking at images of Scilla sibirica on line I do not think it is so different, but no one seems to sell it as a separate form. Thanks any way, will wait and see what happens.
Oddly while looking to see if there were any more like this I found a pure white one. That is in commerce, but we have never planted any so that is a seed produced one too.

If nothing else it would be interesting to know how to bulk up something like this. I spent a happy half hour this morning looking at the 1,000's of the sibirica we have in flower and I would say that there is very little variation in colour, some are a bit darker and some a bit lighter, but only the one striped one and the white one. There are a few million seedlings too.
There is a striped Scilla, S. rosenii with a named form which has a stripe down the petals, I have it in the garden ,but not in flower yet. The flowers are different from S. sibirica though. Will post a picture when, if it flowers.

Interesting form, Scilla sibirica available in several variations of blue to white, some with a darker stripe on white although all that I have seen have had blue or purple flushing into the flower.
Its the sort of plant that is sold as in impulse buy when it's in flower but usually as just as Scilla sibirica. A more specialist grower may be interest in growing selected named forms.
To bulk it up you will need to divide from offsets ideal to separate it out from other colours. I would also collect seed as you may get further variation.
Will look forward to seeing your form of Scilla that you have with a stripe down petals to see how it compares.

Thanks for that. Saves me a bit of worry in that I can now bulk it up for my own pleasure and perhaps use it in a show without having to wonder if it was of value enough for someone to steal (has happened).
The Scilla rosenii is a later flowering one and is only just showing leaves above soil level, so it might be a few days yet.
