Title: Multiple databases
Post by: barryl on October 09, 2007, 09:40:52 PM
While the changes George has made permit ONE alternative named file (which could be multiples of the same name on different flash cards) this is in my view fantastically over-restrictive.

I currently manage about 10 completely separate financial systems and I would like them all to be kept in totally separate files each with their own backup, all with names compleely user selectable.

This is partly for my sanity to help keep things separate and partly because if I need to share information with a third party I wish to transfer just the relevant data (and possibly have him use Bankgenie also).

The program Switch Databases - BS026 has been available since Bank Genie Version 2
This program permits the user to work with an unlimited number of databases.

In Bank Genie 3, Ive explained how to create a new database, by making a copy of your existing database.
Start the program Help Topics - BS002
Read over the topic Folders and Data (Core and Switch data)

Having made the copy of the database, you can use it by switching, using BS026
Then, you will probably need to (in this order):
a) Create a new account (as required for the new database)
b) delete unwanted Accounts

I can (and will) make a simple change in BS026.
When you switch to another database, I wil provide the option to save the folder path to a list.
I can then add a new popup to allow the user to select and switch to any database in the list
