Selecting Raspberry plants
« on: March 21, 2020, 02:16:44 PM »
Any recommendations anyone? We grow them primarily for Jam.

Dobbies have: Tullameen, Malling Jewel, Malling Promise, Octavia, Polka, Autumn Bliss.

I have an early variety, unknown to me as it was grown from canes from a friends garden.
They have "tired" this past few years. New shoots are not as vigorous, and about half the row has died off. Need to plant in another part of the garden from what I read.

Update on this - I bought 12 bare rooted plants of Raspberry 'Glen Ample'.
I think they are the "much the same" as the variety I have already.
They are spineless stems and fruit in June.

My neighbour behind had an autumn variety. They have invaded my garden and along a hedge running towards our house. Unfortunately they are not up to the standards of the jam expert (ahem!) in our house.
They are also getting much too close to my current raspberry patch -  a good distance from the bordering fence at the top of the garden.
