Opening new Data Base
« on: September 16, 2015, 05:36:29 PM »
Hit a problem trying to open an established new additional data base
Worked on the said base for a day or two,  closing down and reopening
a number of times . . . (enjoying myself really)
Now, it won't open, with the information :-

Open not enabled
Selected folder does not contain BG files
Looking for :trans
Been using the same folder/file all the time
I have looked at the file location and all the files seem to be there
I have also tried a "repair install " from the program disc
It's a mystery . . . What can I try ??

Once again, please DO NOT use that repair/Install method.
That could make things worse.
There is ALWAYS a solution without that approach.

First question:
Where is your data located?
a) Local drive (same as Bank Genie program files) or b) on an external drive.
Please reply by email as I prefer to do support on a one to one basis.

Once fixed, we can post the outcome here.

On usb memory stick.
Just 3 folders on it
1. Backup Charles
2. BankG
3. Mavis Data (the one that won't open)

Hi Charles

Do the other 2 open?

Try this:
Exit from Bank Genie.
Eject the Memory stick using Windows tools.
Remove from computer.
Reinsert.
Start BG.
Does that make it open?

Done as you suggested
All 3 files open from the memory stick ok
Still same problem within BG transfer

Even tried "stick" in new ESB socket but same result.

After telephone conversation with GEORGE, this problem has been fixed!!
Method:-
Go to the top menu bar and click  File
In the drop down options click  Re-Index
This "switched on" the Step2 - OPEN window in the open new data screen

Tried  for two days to rectify this myself
GEORGE fixed it in a flash!!
Excellent support for what is an excellent program . .  love it

I was quite relieved we managed to fix it so easily over the phone Charles.
Thank you for your kind comments!

That File>Reindex program was created to rectify an "odd" problem Barry (BarryL on the forum) was experiencing.
Useful :D
