Printing a list of folders
« on: October 25, 2008, 09:22:47 PM »
I would like to be able to print a list of theFolders on a DVD, not the full contents of the disc, just the names of the Folders. Any ideas how?

As far as I know Eric you will need to use additional software for that purpose.

Take a look at this link I found on Google and see if it's of any use to you.

Thanks. I have found a prog which prints the contents of the Disc, but try as I might I can only get it to do all the individual files not just the Folders. Ah well, back to pen and paper (or DOS!)

Eric, try downloading one of those programs on the Google link I sent you, that specifies the printing of just the folders.

There's usually a free trial period, so if you find one that's suitable you could buy it later on.

Nothing to lose in trying before you buy.  Be easier than your pen and paper method  ;D

Click Start
Click Run
Type command
Black DOS type screen appears

Navigate with your DOS commands to the directory
e.g.
cd c:\
will take you to the root drive etc

When you get to the parent folder type:
dir *.>c:\dirs.txt
This will create a file called dirs.txt

Then find and open the file dirs.txt using NOTEPAD
Click the File tab
Click Print

Have done that Laurie, there was a Freeware one, will have to reboot to run it so it will have to wait a while.
Gosh G. aint used DOS since we had a BBC machine and a non windows PC back when Gates was poor!

Edited to add. Rebooted and used a program from someone called Karen and it has printed them off for me , no toruble.

Glad to hear you got sorted out Eric.

Free ones are better if you can find them  ;D

Laurie.

P.S.  I've just had a good look at all her FREE software and there are a lot of very useful utilities there.
I've downloaded a few that sound interesting.  Well worth checking out her site.
