That honour goes to Eric (palustris).
Congratulations Eric!!
Just published today and still undergoing some minor tweaking but I am VERY impressed with what Eric has done here.
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Loughborough_AGS_Show_Oct_2015/ (http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Loughborough_AGS_Show_Oct_2015/)
Built by Eric using Ideas Genie Pro 6 (http://www.ideasgenie.co.uk) with a little guidance from Yours truly.
There were a few hiccups. Ideas Genie didn't like some of his photo file names. They had a space just before the .jpg element.
I made a program change to give the use the option to allow Ideas Genie to rename the file, removing the offending space.
Please note: You CAN have spaces in the file names, but NOT at the very end, just before the .jpg element.
Eric usually posts his projects on photobucket so this is the Ideas Genie alternative.
Comments please!

Being the naughty type, I have done another three projects as well. No doubt George will post the Urls for them in good time.
Why not have a go? It is not as hard as it sounds (if I can do it then anyone can).
-
This guy Eric sure is prolific!!
Yes, four web projects in one day ;D
Heres the other three:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Kendal_AGS_Show_2015/ (http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Kendal_AGS_Show_2015/)
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Caerleon-AGS-Show_2015/ (http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Caerleon-AGS-Show_2015/)
and another show at Loughborough - this one in March 2015 (the first one above was Oct 15) :

-
And of course there is the one from Solihull as well. Only put that one on last night.
-
Excellent work Eric i enjoyed looking through them
-
Good effort.
-
And heres Solihull folk.
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Solihull-AGS-Show_2015/ (http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Solihull-AGS-Show_2015/)
There are some beautiful flowers there Eric :D
What is it like to be there?
Are any plants for sale?
-
The Shows are usually very busy, so one needs to choose one's time to go round with the camera. There are various specialist nurseries present and a Member's stall too.
-
I was working on another set of just pictures of plants taken last year. Then I realised to would take 62 pages with 21 images per page to do it. A little excessive I feel.
-
More than 1240 photos taken?
Is that in your own garden Eric?
-
No, these are from all over the place and were intended to be sent to you for the Master Data Base. And if I ever manage to find a way to put them on DVD I will get them to you.
Do you have an SD card reader on your computer?
-
Wow! Thank you Eric!
I will send you a 4GB Flash drive Eric. Is that big enough?
Ideas Genie Pro uses a) the file name by default on each of the web pages it generates in the Web Projects - GA642 program.
or b) This can be overwritten if you enter you own text.
I notice your have all plant names.
Do you rename all your jpg files to be the same name as the plant in each photo? (meaning method b) will apply?
If yes, That is a colossal amount of work. Great for me if I get those photos, of course.
They will sure swell the number of photos in the Master Database.
-
Yes, I go through the photos when I get home and rename them. I usually take a picture of the label with the plant to make it easier. It passes the time nicely as there is so little on TV that I watch and my arthritic neck is so bad that reading a book is a penance these days.
There are some in the list which a prefaced with the name of the place where I took the photos rather than just a straight plant name though.
I presume you want the full size images rather than the 640 by 480 ones I use for Photobucket etc?
A Flash Drive of that size would just about get you all that file. Bur not any of this years photos.
-
I'd prefer the original size files if that's OK
We can do it a couple of exchanges if necessary.
I'll post the Flash drive to you tomorrow (Wed)
-
Southport AGS show is there now.
-
Hey, you're getting good at this Eric ;D
Heres the link folk:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Southport/ (http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Southport/)
-
Pershore is on its way!
-
Prolific!!
Heres the link to your Pershore project:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Pershore/ (http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Pershore/)
-
So, having looked at them I wonder how hard it would be to alter them?
-
Hi Eric
Just make the changes in GA642, click Generate in GA642S02 and FTP up to the website again.
Delete the current project on the server before uploading, OR drag it up and overwrite the existing one.
-
Cheers. Will give it a try.
-
Trouble now is that the link does not go directly to the project, it goes to Apache and then you have to link from there.
Whoops, my mistake, it works now I have done it properly. Will alter the others later.
-
Still not managing to do this. Just how do I delete the File to be replaced? I have tried and it is still there and that is where the link goes to.
Tried again and the file is still there, despite Delete.
Renamed them Rubbish so at least I can try to transfer the altered folder across.
Moved the altered Folder across and so now the link no longer works.
-
What is the name of the project you are trying to upload?
-
Loughborough AGS March 2105.
I have uploaded it, successfully.
In the end I Deleted all the files in the old Folder of that name (after renaming it to Rubbish) Then I Deleted the Folder itself. Try as I might I could not get the Program itself to Delete the Folder when it was full.
Very odd.
I still want to alter the other AGS show Projects from this year, to give them a proper first page, in keeping with all the other Show Projects from the past.
-
Next question. Is it possible to stop the program from showing the date a photo was taken? It does it even though the Exif data on the picture has been removed.
-
In which program? In which screen?
I don't think there is. If the program cant read or find an EXIF date in the photos "inners" it uses the File date.
Why do you want to remove the date?
NOTE: The program uses the date in BS405 (Garden Photos program) to show you your garden by Year and by season, based on the photo dates.
ALSO: When Generating (Step 7) your web pages in GA642S02 you can uncheck the checkbox:
Show date taken in description
-
That's better. It is only on the first picture in the sequence, which is a very old one, so it looks a bit odd for 2015 images to be preceded by a 2011 one.
Ta.
-
You can edit the Photo date in a number of programs.
I have to assume that you are referring to the program Web Projects GA642.
Using that program, when you reach screen GA642S03, find and click on that photo with the odd date.
Click the Edit button at bottom of screen.
Takes you to screen GA100S20.
Click the Notes about this photo tab (top of screen)
Edit the date in the Photo Date Taken field.
-
Sorry, if I Click on the photo it takes me to GA500107. Cannot find GA100520.
-
In the list of photos, click (to select) on the line showing your photo, then click the Edit button at bottom of screen (not the photo.)
-
That brings up a box saying Link this photo to a plant or Garden and try again.
-
OK, lets do as it says.
Click the Link button (bottom left region of GA642S03).
You will be given an option to link it to a plant or a garden area.
-
But this image is not a plant, it is an introductory page for the Show pages. So, linking to as plant brings up choices which do not rally apply. Linking it to a Garden area brings up GA605504
-
In GA605S04, click the tab: Photo title and notes.
That allows you to edit the date.
-
Cheers. Done that, eventually.
Hope the letter arrived safely?
-
Yes, letter arrived last Friday.
Copied pics onto my drive today.
982 quality photos, all file names edited to the name of the plant shown 8)
Now that is a LOT of work Eric. Quite amazing!
Many thanks Eric. I am very grateful once again :)
PS: All those photos have been contributed by Eric for inclusion in the Master Database.
This will be available to all users of Ideas Genie Pro 6 (http://www.ideasgenie.co.uk)
-
There are about the same number still awaitng your pleasure!
-
Gosh!!!
Over what period and how many shows have you been accumulating all those photos Eric?
I'm going to write a special program to import them all to the Master Database, using your filename/plant names.
It would be quicker than doing them all individually!
-
I think they are ones I have taken since the last time I sent you a DVD with pictures on, so about 2 years. Some are from various gardens as well, and even a few from ours!
-
Just added another set of images to FileZilla. The name is My_Garden.
And the Loughborough March show ones still do not work.
-
Loughborough is working again now Eric:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Loughborough_AGS_Show_March_2015/
The problem was due to the size of the Web Page Prefix field in screen GA642S02.
Currently Ideas Genie Pro 6 (http://www.ideasgenie.co.uk) allows a max character size of 25.
This was truncating your Web Page Prefix name as you will see in your project.
Loughborough_AGS_Show_March 2015 became: Loughborough_AGS_Show_Mar
Ive had to edit the project name on the server for you to get that long name in.
In the meantime, for other new project, try and keep this field within 25 characters.
I'll look at the program and make it (say) 35 or perhaps 40 characters long.
Your garden Web Project looks real good Eric. Heres the URL:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/My-garden/
In your case, Its always http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/ followed by the Web Page Prefix name
-
Great. Thanks.
Now tell me again how to alter the other Show ones, please. I have added a title page to them.
Will start work on a Bodnant one next time it rains and keeps me confined to barracks.
-
Check on the server Eric.
If the name on the server is exactly the same as the Web Page Prefix in GA642S02 then simply drag it from your computer to the server. You will get a message Do you wish to overwrite this file and you answer Yes.
If its longer than 25 chars, wait until later today and I'll set up a program update to make the Web Page Prefix field bigger in GA542S02 as mentioned above.
After you have uploaded, the URL to tell the world is (In your case):
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/ followed by the Web Page Prefix name
Other users:
You will be given your own folder. e.g MyName
In that case, the URL to published projects will be:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/MyName/ followed by the Web Page Prefix name
Its easy, believe me!!
Like to give it a try?
-
It is really simple, once you get the hang of it. Come on folks, dive in!
-
Ok. All the Show plant ones are now altered and uploaded.
-
Good work Eric!
-
Now done one for Bodnant Gardens in April.
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/Bodnant/
-
Take a bow Eric. This is a masterpiece ;D
You've taken SO much time to make up this project AND added so many plant names in the photo descriptions 8)
I know (and anyone who does any web publishing knows) that this is a very time consuming effort.
I cant thank you enough!
That means not only did you compose all those photos but you wrote down all their names (or took a photo of their labels perhaps).
Which brings me to my 1st question:-
Were all the plants labelled in Bodnant Gardens?
-
Definitely need to take pictures of plant labels. And yes, all those plants were in Bodnant, flowering at the time of taking the pictures.
Can I carry on doing these projects? Or am I getting greedy?
-
Carry on Eric.
Going forward, please create a new topic for each project like Bodnant or Show- e.g. in the Garden to visit section.
-
Not sure where to put this one. It is not a Garden as such, but a fascinating place just a mile from us.
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/British_Ironworks
-
Its unusual Eric, but for people who are looking through the forum for places to visit, then I guess the Gardens to Visit section is the closest for this project.
