Title: Using Bank Genie on both your computer and laptop
Post by: Eric Hardy on April 29, 2012, 11:49:59 AM
George very kindly allowed me to use Bank Genie Pro 4 on both my laptop and my computer. I have a very handy portable hard drive and things developed in a very interesting way. In an email George suggested this: -

“Another trick for you.
You can keep your LIVE data on a memory stick, or better portable external drive if you have one.
Make a backup to that to begin with. That’s now your live data.
In Preferences, look for the checkbox – Advanced User. Check it so its ON. Save changes.
Use the program Open another database – BS426.
Select the database on the external drive.
NOW, check the field Make this my START UP folder.
Open the database.
Do this on both computers.
Now, when you use either computers, you are using exactly the same data – no need for restore.
Now for the reverse logic.
Do a restore regularly on each computer– but that’s now your backups!!
Figure that out!”

All I can say is that George ’s instructions were very clear and it works brilliantly. It seems strange using “restore” as a back-up but you soon get used to it. Now I have Bank Genie available to use wherever I am.

Thanks for posting that Eric, and I'm glad it worked well for you.
You've given me an idea. When I get back to working on the User Guide, I will have a section for Tips and Tricks ;)
