Title: Happy New Year!
Post by: ideasguy on December 31, 2009, 01:21:02 PM
Its Auld Lang Syne time again and I'd like to wish all our members a very Happy New Year!

The snow has cleared away here in Ireland, so no problems travelling for an evening of celebrations.
We are having a family get together this evening at Simon and Keelins house in Belfast.
Before that the children, young and "young at heart" are going to a pantomime:

The Grand Opera House is one of the most beautiful buildings in Belfast!

Happy New Year everyone!

Happy New Year to everyone from Kathy and I.

We were absent from the Forum briefly due to a late visit from Santa.  He brought us two new computers, so we've been busy getting to grips with Windows 7 and transferring all our programs and data.  ::)

A bit early to give a definitive answer yet Phil, but we knew at some point we'd have to learn to use it as it's now shipped with all new Windows PC's.

The interface takes a bit of getting used to.  When you've used Windows up to XP generation (not Vista in our case), then Windows 7 is a bit of a shock.  Not in a bad way though, you just have to persevere with it.

We particularly like the way you can have several programs open at once, with their icons on the Taskbar, and you can hover the cursor each icon and see what the page is, which then disappears again when you move the cursor away.  Then you can just click on the one you want to view at that time without having to continually minimise each window as in previous versions of Windows.

I'm sure there's going to be lots more surprises (nice ones hopefully  :D) in store for us as we progress.

So for now, we're liking what we see.  8)

Laurie.

Not a good start to the new year for Val, the lady we took photos of her National Collection of Montana Clematis over the last couple of years.
Her husband died just after midnight. He had been fighting cancer for about 4 years, with the help of some of the new cancer drugs, but alas it didn't stop it.
It wasn't long ago we saw him, when they popped in with a young Clematis montana, that Val had layered from the parent plant. It was one I particularly liked when I took the photos. Apparently one from Germany.

Happy New Year to you all from Anthea and me. The new year has started here with frost and sunshine after a clear night with a full moon.
They lit the beacon on the common at midnight and had a few fireworks. I could watch from the warmth of my bed with the curtains open  :)

We have just tiny vestiges of snow left

and it remained frosty all day in the woods
