I fell...
« on: October 01, 2009, 10:40:57 AM »
I was walking to the local Doctors Surgery for an appointment with the Nurse to have my ears syringed.
Met one of my daughters friends and had a quick chat, spun round to walk on down the steep hill and my runners caught in the rough road - down I went - head first!
I put my left arm out to save myself but the full force was on the left side of my face. I passing neighbour saw the incident and drove me to the surgery.
Fortunately I had that appointment! I was ushered in right away and cleaned up.
Needed 5 stitches in a cut above my eye.

Now sporting cuts and bruises all over that side of my face.
I'm counting my lucky starts that nothing is broken, and now that I'm home I'm finding all the other injuries.
Right thumb is very painful. Swelling below the eye and mouth (I'd say I nearly lost a front tooth)
Scratches on my left forearm, left knee, left hand etc.

I feel a right idiot!

Thanks Phil
I'm lucky to have two working arms and hands to "keep at it" on the computer!
I'll be Skype shy for a while ;D

Ouch Ouch. I also saw the nurse today but arrived back home with no more problems than when I left! Of course we dont have hills in my part of the world.

Sorry to hear about your accident George, as you say nothing broken so that is a blessing.

Down here I am sure the doctor would have said go to A&E and the 3 to 5 hour, or more wait.
Lyn hurt her foot while we were out walking some years ago. Fortunatley not too far away from the car.
We went to A&E as very painfull, we arrived at 4pm, and were told there was a long waiting list, and to come back about 10pm, which we did.
And left there at 1am >:( She had chipped a bone in her foot.

Get well soon

The irony of it is, when the Nurse had me patched up, she inspected my ears.
They were clear! The drops I'd been given to loosen the wax had done the job!

Fortunately not as serious as Lyns injury Malcolm. Ive spent a few hours at various times in A&E (not always the patient). The waiting times are the same here!

I think the steep hill did come into play Barry, as when I spun on the left foot it "stuck" to the ground, and I recollect my right foot tripping as i tried to recover balance.
Afterwards we dicussed how fortunate I was. No approaching cars :o

Sorry to hear about your accident George.  :o

Bad enough the injuries you sustained, but look on the bright side - fortunately no broken bones.

You can at least interact on Skype via keyboard, and 'save face' (pun intended) by not going into Video Call mode.

Get well soon.

Laurie.

I'm very relieved to say I'm working away Laurie!
My right thumb is a worry. Painful! No headache, and that was my biggest concern.

Hi George, that was not a good idea at all  >:( . I'm glad nothing was broken but sorry it spoiled your beauty.  I hope you feel better soon. That sort of thing shakes you up. You are probably right, we should postpone our next Skype attempt for a day or two  :)

Yes, there goes my opportunity to star in a soap ad ;D

I'm OK with a Skype session if you are not queasy Eric ;D
Later this evening is OK. We are looking after our 4yo grandson at present. It took him more than an hour to get used to papa's new looks. He was quite frightened :o

I discovered that the face had been knocked off my watch. We've just walked down and revisited the scene. Found the watch face - in bits!
Would have been very lucky if it had been intact bearing in mind the traffic on that road.
It marked the spot!

Well, you cannot have one!  ;)

Been there, done that, sat in A&E for hours.
Hope it all settles down for you.

I managed to do my normal days work on the computer and then a couple of hours light work in the garden Eric.
With all these patches, I'm thinking of changing my user name to Pudsey ;D
It took a few hours, but my grandson seems to have accepted the new appearance! He really was quite taken aback.

Yes, that worked!
On the subject of teeth, I've an appointment with the dentist tomorrow at 2:00. I 'm counting myself very lucky that I only need one implant!
On that subject and diversifying even further. Whats the going rate in your locality for an implant? Anybody had one?
I had an eye tooth extracted in 2002. Decided to do something about it after all those years (the things you have to do now in the day and age of webcams!)

Not sure of the cost of a whole implant George. The cost of a crown with the root still intact for Anthea was about £550, so brace yourself  :o

Never had one done George, but if Anthea's crown is anything to go by - YIKES!!!  :o  :o

Good luck with that George.

£550
I'd settle for that. My dentist is charging me £1600.
Not all dentists can perform the surgery to insert the implant.
Its a 2.5 hr appointment. Mine is on 10th Jan 2010. Hes in demand apparently.

I know it is not the same as you are having done.
Lyn is having a crown replaced for £181 on a NHS dentist, which is the max amount they can charge on NHS.

What make of CARS does your dentist have. ;D

£1600 seems a ridiculous amount. Was it a result of your fall? and how is the thumb now?

Its a 2.45 op for the implant and most dentist do referrals as its specialised etc etc.
I expected around £1000, but in asking around locally Ive been told its anything between 1500 and 2000 (even up to 3000) :o

My dentist told me there is not a great profit. They have to work very long hours to cover overheads.
Yesterday I kept my appointment for a double "session" - two fillings and full impressions (top and bottom set of teeth) for a temporary plate and tooth. It cost £55
That was for 1.5 hrs to cover his time and assistant plus equipment and materials (which no doubt is expensive)
Plus, 2 receptionists. Its a father and son practice.
The dentists work to 9:pm and also work Sats.
For anyone going through education and the many years of training to be qualified, I don't think they are overpaid. (Hope he doesn't ready this !!  ;D) In the surge before the crunch, tradesmen in the building trade were enjoying MUCH more than £60 per hour.

Anyway, the face was already like Tyson's victims before going to the dentist so a bit of freezing for a few hours didn't make a lot of difference ;D

Thumb is good, just a little reaction when pushed. Oddly, I now feel a bit of a catch in my left upper arm and shoulder, so it took the brunt of the impact (mercifully)
Recovering well. Removing the patch covering the stitches today so hopefully will look less like Pudsey  ;D (my new nickname from my ever loving "kids")

Real good, and thanks for asking!
Got the stitches out on Tue and I wondered how they were going to see them beneath the "layer".
They can work wonders, and out they came!
I walked to the surgery and home again, incident free 8)

I cant believe how quick the cuts healed after that and how the black eye (it was a real shiner!) cleared up.
Just a little abrasion on my nose to heal. Oddly, the cut where the stitches were is healed.
However, its still a bit tender!

I'm treading carefully nowadays!

Hi George, you guys sure is from the tough stock !
Still so agile after the fall.

Here's something to lighten you up...
Sometime back there was a report about
a baby being mulled by a dog.
We are mutli racial remember...
A "singlish" friend reported.the baby was beaten by the teas of the dog.
A Filipino friend concurred, ya..ya.. the baby was bitten by the tits of the dog.
and we ??? what tits that can mulled the baby..??  :)
