Sedum cyaneum

2/3 inches tall, flowers August onwards. Needs well drained soil in full sun. Dead easy to propagate. Bees love it.

That one looks gorgeous Eric.  Definitely one to go in our alpine bed.  ;D

I'll make a note of this one to show Kathy later on.

Thanks for sharing that one.  8)

Kathy's currently waiting on a delivery of some alpine plants (delay at the nursery at the moment), but don't ask me which variety she's ordered just yet.  I'll need to check with the boss later for that info.  ;)

In the meantime, can you give us some suggestions of alpines you've had experience with that would be suitable for our bed.  Gets pretty much full sun from morning to early evening, and drainage is good.

Laurie.

Any Phlox subulata or douglassii. they come in shades of blue, white red and pink. Choose by colour as there are more names than there are different colours!.
Any Silene except perhaps S. maritima (find that very invasive)
Armeria juniperifolia (or something like that ) white and pink.
Creeping forms of Penstemon (make sure they are creepers, some grow tall, though not as tall as border ones obviously)
Arenaria montana( pink or white)
For yellow go for a prostrate Genista, like procumbens.
Any dwarf bulbs are good.
Dianthus.
Primula auricula types
Crepis incana.
Saxifraga oppositifolia
Any Saxifrage with encrusted leaves, like cotyledon. (Look up section Ligulate for a list of them)
Androsace sempervivoides.
Gentiana verna if liimy. Gentiana septemfida types if acid.
Hundreds more if you want them!

WOW!! I never expected such a comprehensive list.  :o

There's definitely food for thought there Eric.

I'll let Kathy have a good look through this list for now.

I think that those alone could pretty much fill our current sized bed.  ;D
