So, the title says it all, I need dummies instructions on how to move all the Ideas Genie stuff from Vista machine to 7 machine and I mean DUMMIES!

Start by installing the software from CD, Eric.

Next, a question to you. Is your conection good enough to download program updates? They are typically 1 to 3 mb in size and can be downloaded individually.

Anything up to 10 meg is possible if slow.
So Ideas Genie plus the Master Data base which you sent?

They can both be installed from the CD's to your computer.
Its only program updates which need to be loaded and we can deal with most of those after everything is installed from CD.

Please take this in easy steps.

Step 1:
Install IG Pro from the CD

Step 2
You do need to download the new Registration Program at this stage.
Click this link:
http://www.ideasgenie.com/updates-igpro/GA149-dl.exe

When downloaded and installed, start IG Pro and start the Registration Program GA149
It should indicate Version 19 in the title bar.
Use your licence to register (I have already send you an email with a reminder of your licence no)

Please let me know when you are installed and registered.

New machine has crashed, cannot get it to work at all,so back on the old one, hang fire for a while.
Back up for this machine is on a DVD.

Firefox tied up yesterday and the machine would not shut down. Afer much time it went to a screen which asked for the System Disc to be inserted. At this point I had to turn off the computer as it was very late. Turned on this morning and it ran a Start up Repair tool which eventually got Windows 7 running again. Worked for a while. then Firefox froze again and again the machine wouod not close down. Eventually got to Task Manager and Forced closure again. However noe when I turn it on I get the request for the Systems Disc. Now when that is inserted it loads a few files, but the Repair Program says it cannot repair the damage. It then ask for the Back up discs (which I have on the Icy Box). That started up it wants to do a System Morror Image thing which worries me in case I lose everything which is on the Hard drive in the machine. So bit stuck really.
Rang the computer company. Bring it in says they, Problem in that I cannot drive. £66 call out fee then. Sod that says I.
Sp back on the old machne with all its troubles for the moment until I can take the machine in to the shop,

Sorry to hear about your computer woes Eric.

I can really sympathise because, as you probably know from a recent posting I made, Kathy's computer had crashed due to a nasty virus, and we had to get an engineer out in the end as nothing I did could solve the problem. We both decided to get new computers after that, as we were overdue for them anyway.

I was just going to ask you how you were finding the new Windows 7 Operating System as well.

From what you have said so far, it sounds like Firefox has been the culprit here. Is it a version that supports Windows 7? I don't use Firefox as my preferred browser so I can't really comment much about it.

You'll probably not be able to respond much on the Forum at the moment if you've had to go back to your old computer, as I know the Internet connection problems you were experiencing with it.

I hope you'll be able to get sorted out soon though.

If you're able to read this Eric, try looking through your phone book to see if there's a computer engineer listed who will come to your house with a "no fix, no fee" proviso.
When Kathy's computer crashed we got one who didn't charge a fee if he couldn't fix it. As it turned out, he was able to fix it and it only cost us £60 altogether - a call-out charge plus about 2 hours work.
It's worth checking out Eric.

Still under guarantee which is void if the machine is opened by anyone else. Until it crashed we were ok with W7, a lot better in some ways than Vista but it does take some getting used to.
Will just have to wait until I can drive again.

Yes, I see the dilemma now Eric. I never considered the manufacturers warranty aspect and the procedure involved.

Now that you've mentioned it, the same applies here. If a new PC goes faulty the store you bought it from will fix it for you or give a replacement if they can't fix it, but you have to return it to the store in the first instance.

Good luck with getting it sorted out anyway.

Got it back yesterday, finished updating all the Security things etc. So far so good (Bow to Hubris). They shop could find nothing wrong and it worked perfectly first time for them Try as I might I have not got it to crash like that yet. Plenty of timre though.

Using the computer which crashed way back in January. It crashed again after not working really well since we bought it. Since I was able to drive I took it in and insisted they had a look at it. There was a component with a loose wire which if the computer was moved stopped connecting and so the machine crashed. Move the machine again and it worked. So the first time taking the thing in to the shop on the bus, was obviously enough to get it working and they did not check all the components. They replaced it free of charge and it has worked properly since (another bow to Hubris).
Everything which was on the old machine transferred to this one, no trouble via a 1TB external harddrive. There is a facility in W& for moving stuff from one achine to another, but don't ask me how I did it 'cos I didn't. The advantage of very computer literate grandsons.
