Papaver 'Christopher Lloyd'
« on: February 09, 2006, 03:38:46 PM »
Found this on a photo shoot in a garden in Crawfordsburn, Co Down.
I was already Ooohs and Aaahs on the journey. The lady who designed and planted this garden is N Irelands answer to Beth Chatto!
She said she actually met Chriostopher Lloyd. didnt have time to discuss that much at the time, but as Arnie said, I'll (hope) to be back!
Anyway this one drew a BIG Oooooh from me. Its a gorgeous pale pink.

Ive tried to source it. It draws a blank on the internet.

Update, update
I revisted May's garden again, amd discussed the Papaver.
Its actually ONE of Christoper Lloyds plants, not a cultivar of that name.

I've been promised some seeds!

As for the garden visit, it was an open day, plant sales etc. Proceeds in aid of a dogs charity (?? name escapes me). Gosh, its heaven on earth. Her plants are just gorgeous.
Crawfordsburn is a micro climate. Its beside the sea, so frost is not as big a problem as in my region, a mere 30 miles away. I'm about 20 miles inland.
I'm hoping to document her plants collection. Ive got a list of 2 x A4 pages so far, of the ones that caught my eye.
It takes a keen eye to spot the beauties that aer NOT in flower. I saw this gorgeous glossy green leaved plant. I called our hostess. She got very excited - and told me she grew it from a cutting - a Daphne. Anyone grow Daphnes?
