Linking Garden Pictures in wpg
« on: October 01, 2008, 07:17:13 PM »
I would like to have some garden pictures on the WPG output, placed between the introduction and the first listed plant.
Can I link more than one garden picture to the first listed plant, to achieve this.

Yes, and yes

The restriction here is that the first plant in your list has extra significance (If you are using the Alphabetic plants list option - I think you are)

Add a photo for your first plant.
Once you've done that, a More button appears when that plant is selected.
Click More.
You can add more Plant Photos, and more Garden Photos.

Heres the rules:
Lets say you add 3 of each.
The 3 Garden Photos will sit sequentially above the plant photos.
You can shuffle the garden photos up and down with respect to each other (these shuffle buttons only appear when you've more than one photo linked to a plant)
You can also shuffle the plant photos up and down with respect to each other
You cannot move plant photos above the garden photos which are linked to that plant.

Having done that, the garden photos linked to the first plant will appear just after the Introduction, per your intention.

If you subsequently add a plant to the list which is alphabetically before your first plant, then it goes above the garden photos linked to what WAS the first plant originally.

You would then need to unlink the Garden Photos from the original plant, and link them to the NEW first plant in the list.

I could do some more work on the program to allow users to shuffle the Garden Photos up and automatically link up to the NEW first plant, but (ahem) that might cause headaches  ;)  :)

The above rules apply anywhere in the list, of course.

Advanced options   8) ::: (Headaches guaranteed  :D)
You an create groups (look for option in Initial screen (GA032S01)
When you go that route, all plants can be shuffled into any desired order.

The following is an example:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/botanic-gardens/belfast-botanic-gardens/

Note how I have a garden photo as first in the list, just after the intro.

If you want to try that, I suggest you create a new review and play around with it.
Don't upset that 1053 (currently) masterpiece!!!
Love the new Review text!!
Now thats when this project REALLY starts to work. I value the reviews by experienced gardeners very highly.

Thank you for the explanation George, linking garden photos to plants fairly straight forward. I have added a few garden pics now live.

I think that I will try the "Groups", what i will do is show some general pics of the Front and Back in seperate headed groups, after the intro.
I can see that I will have to have a plant in each group to link the garden pics to, as in your Belfast Botanical.

As I run 3 computers here, I reckon I will purchase a licence to use IG pro on one of the others, then I can play with the existing wpg without risk.

Wow-eeee!!
Yes, I can see the Garden Photos in your WPG website.
Beautiful  8)
More, more please!!

A tip:
Garden Photos:
Note how
a) the default link text is Garden Photo
and
b) the default Page heading (above the Garden Photo) is also Garden Photo
You can edit 2 text fields in screen GA032S08, to change both of those to anything you like.
Click the Garden Photo
The 2 text fields are bottom left region of the screen.

You'll have to manually put each plant in your list into a group Malcolm.
A little bit tedious but simple to achieve.

Hey, theres as credit crunch on!

Credit crunch = customers more likely to have their appliances repaired ? = more £ for me = less time for me to play with WPG= self defeating.

Thanks for the tip re the text fields, have just tried item 4 on the plant list, works a treat. All these buttons are not just there to confuse us after all. :)

Roses grow on you!
Mind you, some have thorns  :)

I see what youve done with Garden Photo Item 4. Well done!

Its good to know the credit crunch will help someone, Malcolm. I never thought of the effect it could have on the appliances repair business. As for software? Well, it may well be on the other end of the spectrum.
I'll have to make it so it can be used by kids. Parents dont ever seem to have a budget for that department!

Our webpages now have groups on them. Many thanks to George for ironing out a few bugs for me.

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful!

Youve applied the groups perfectly, and thanks for your patience and understanding during the debugging  :-[
Now we're OK until somebody decides to publish 10,000 plant photos  :)
P.S. Its not a challenge folk  :)

I am trying hard George, I think it is 1072 at the moment. ;D

So much to learn in the program, and I cant remember if you can chose a path for the wpg output, other than C drive.
I have looked in most places to find where this can be altered, have given up now, George to the rescue please  :-[

Output is hard coded to go to the c: drive under c:\igdata_sets\web\ folder , Malcolm.
I havent given the option to allow the user to configure that output folder as yet.

I wanst sure how popular it would be at the time, so I took that shortcut.

Its something to be considered for IG Pro Version 6.
It needs some thought and research, as Vista users may find it causes less hassle if it can be directed to a folder under the User Profile structure.

Do you have a problem with the current output folder?
When you create a second WPG project, the output goes to a new folder, but under the Web folder (above).

Just me being awkward again. ;D
With the lower cost of hard drives, I have multiple drives in the computer.
Programmes go onto C drive, Pictures,Music,Word files etc onto other drives.
Reasoning is that the C drive gets a lot more work, so is more likely to fail.
My website is not on C drive, so have to copy the wpg output over. not that much trouble, not to worry George.
Just thought I may have missed out somewhere to alter the path.
