Useful information about Printers
« on: March 03, 2008, 01:24:52 PM »
Behind the scenes this past couple of months, Ive been working with Toby to add more Label options for you to use in GA048 (The Plant Labelling Program).
Toby's paper stock is Letter size - the standard on the US market. In the UK, we use A4 paper size, and I've been researching some of the options available here in the UK.
The object is to provide a range of labels to suit standard sheets, readily available locally, wherever you happen to be located.

For the horticulture application, labels which are waterproof and durable are usually associated with a certain type of printer.

There will be lots of discussion on this soon. Toby has indicated that he will post on the forum when we have finalised the labels we've been working on.

In the meantime, its a good time to read up on printing technology, and this is the best web page Ive seen on the topic:
http://www.askoki.co.uk/encyclo/printertech/

In particular, read over:
a) Digital LED
b) Inkjet
c) Laser Printing

Paul (Gower Fushsias - http://www.gower-fuchsias.co.uk/) has been very helpful in pointing me to the above link, and also to this source of labels, for use in the profession.

Ive been working with Paul and Mike (http://www.imberhornelanenursery.co.uk/) to create Catalogs on CD for their Nurseries.
Once that's done, we can move the labels program GA048 along, both for the professional, and for the Amateur gardener.
