Perished plants!

Hi George,
As I was adding a couple of specimens of "Rhododendron Lee's Scarlet" that I grew from some cuttings, I noticed that in screen GA100S36 (I think I got there from GA004, the Specimen list had this entry:

Location Not Defined
   Location Not Defined
      1 x 344:  : 04-16-205: Owned: 5 yrs

John Bullivant
   South Driveway, Mid
       2 x 344-2: E. Schultz : 09-28-2007: Owned: 3 yrs

The second entry is the one I just made for the 2 plants I grew from cuttings and planted out. The first entry, when I looked at it, was the plant I purchased in 2005 and had marked 'Perished' in 2006 (we had a bad winter! and it probably hadn't developed its full hardiness).

It would be nice if this display showed the fact the plant had died as while I probably do technically still own it, it's in the form of compost now...

This is a good exercise for all to understand the workings of the specimens program, thanks John

Start Files->Plant Care Classifications - GA011
Add a new Topic:
To do desc: Perish (not something you plan as a task, but something needed in the system for this application)
Done Desc: Perished (That IS sometimes required, unfortunately)

Now start GA029 (or GA004, or GA027 etc)
Get into the specimen profile screen GA100S23 for the plant (add a specimen to continue if you don't have one)
In GA100S23, click on Specimen Events button
Click Add an event button
Takes you to GA100S26
Enter an event for the plant = Perished (you can write notes!)
Now in other programs, the programs will show the latest status as Perished.

Let me know how you get on with that lot! I'd like to hear comments from all who try this.

Hi George,
I finally was able to get around to this. I followed those instructions and the specimen now has a 'Perished' event associated with it.

However, on screen GA100S36, when you click the Specimen button and get a list of the specimens, what it shows is:

GA100S36 doesn't show events John (as yet, but I could look at that!)

Use the program Specimens - GA029
In the display you can use the controls (buttons, checkboxes) to list Genus, individual plants and plants in a garden area (with their specimens listed of course).
That program can show the last event per specimen.
The Print button is quite special in that program and will allow you to print out a list of plants with their "chain" of Events.
We will be looking at that in the later stages of our Vegetable project. Be sure to do the lessons folk!
