Title: Ideas Genie Pro 6 (pre release)
Post by: ideasguy on February 08, 2015, 11:28:43 AM
Ideas Genie Pro 6 (our Software for Plants & Gardens) has been under development (in parallel with Bank Genie Pro 5) for at least 2 years.
I'm delighted to make this pre-release announcement!

As you may have read in my first posting today, we are at Taras house in Manchester performing nursing duties ;D.
I had a hectic few days before setting off, creating the first installer project for the new Ideas Genie Pro 6.
It took a few attempts, installing on my old XP, giving it a road test and making note of any issues.

I'm delighted to say I got it working, made a copy and now have it running over here on Taras Vista laptop.
I'm enjoying playing with it.
Its a perfect opportunity to do the time consuming exercise of testing every program and noting anything that needs attention.

Ideas Genie Pro 6 includes two general purpose programs which would be quite useful for any user (not just gardeners).
One is a photo management program (its a new, additional, Web Page Generator).
One of the features is to allow you to see your garden by year and by season, displaying the projects in HTML (web browser) format, so you can view them locally (on your own computer) or on the internet if you wish to share.
It has specific features related to Garden plants and Garden Photos of course.
The spin off is, It allows you to gather collages of photos of anything you fancy!
e.g. I have created a test database with family and friends (instead of plants!).
e.g again - Ive been rummaging through my photo album and arranging and creating IG Pro projects of photos of the children by year.
It pulls photos from any number of folders into groups - or web pages.

The other general purpose program is the Articles program.
Its been given a complete overhaul as it didnt reach its potential in the earlier releases.
Initially intended to allow the user to categorise and keep track of all the wee notes made when reading books and magazines, the spin offs are unlimited to anyone with a vivid imagination as it also allows you to categorise your links to documents and photos found on the internet.
another e.g. its a great tool for use as a filing system ;D

Exciting times for you George, and now able to devote your full attention to your software development now you've got over the stress of Tara's op.

These can be worrying times, but I'm glad to hear everything went well and she's recovering nicely.

I'm sure we're all waiting with baited breath for the release date  ;)

In the next week or so (after I return home and fix the things I notice in my preliminary testing) I'd like you to download the new Ideas Genie Pro 6.
Can you make (or do you have) a backup from your last computer?

No, that was the problem, the hard drive failed catastrophically and I lost almost everything from it. I have the disc with the original program on it, that is all.

The Master Database (which can be downloaded or copied from DVD) features your garden from a few years ago, Eric.
It has 445 of your plants to give you a starting point.

Did you try taking the HDD to an expert? It is amazing what they can recover sometimes.

Meanwhile it is a lesson to all to take backups on more than one system or device.

(I arrange that my data is replicated on three different computers!)

Yes, and it was totally fried. And I do have back ups of almost everything elsewhere. Just never got round to finding them.

Hi Robert

Ive checked our correspondence and will be delighted to have you as one of the first to download the new Version 6 of Ideas Genie Pro software.
I'd welcome the opportunity top work with you in translating it into Dutch (your native language).
I'll be in touch as soon as I possibly can! Its been a long hard development cycle going from Version 5 to version 6.

Looking forward to the release, here in Michigan in the States, still dreaming of the spring to come while looking out the window at the dead grass and dormant trees.
