Title: New feature - Shortcuts
Post by: ideasguy on June 17, 2009, 12:15:50 AM
Thanks to Barry (we are working together on Bank Genie - Cambridge Edition) Ive developed a feature which has huge potential in my whole range of software.
Barry asked if I could provide options to appear when you right click in certain fields and lists.

To my surprise, I discovered it was relatively easy.
I realised it would be useful in our new Rich Text screen we've been working on as a team  ;) for Plant Labels.
Working it into those Rich Text fields was NOT easy!
But after much development, Ive got it working  8)

Try editing any Labels which allow you to play with Rich Text labels, and get to screen GA048S08.
There are three Rich Text editing areas.
Right click into each one.
A shortcut appears.
Try all the options.
Also, try copying text from one region into another using the Select All, Copy and Paste options on the shortcuts.

Also try right clicking in the Plant Name field (top of screen)
Copy the plant name
Paste into the field just above the photo.

Should indicate Version 28 when started.

A very much easier way to work George, I never really liked having to go to the bar at top of page to copy/paste etc.

In the very short time I have tried this out, and would need to confirm.

Have we lost the save button only when text is copied, I copied plant name to all three text areas just as a try out, no save button came up. Added some text manually to just one of the text fields, save button appears ok.

Try for yourself to confirm before investigation, as I say haven't had time to try again, but will do later.

Yes Malcolm, you are absolutely correct!
I will make the Save button appear as soon as data is pasted into any one of those fields. An oversight on my part.
I rolled the test screen developments into GA048S08 at end of day so not much testing done on finished article.

Meanwhile just manually type at least one character (or click spacebar) and Save button will appear.

Thanks Laurie and Phil
The difference from other standard shortcuts is that you have additional and specific IG Pro options for the control (data field) you right click into.
Similar to the others (Colour etc) I will add some more in the rich text fields, to access the data stored in your database.
e.g. Height, Plant type, Flowers in, etc
Could also do things which are entered in Global Editing screens like Hardiness, Sunlight requirements, Fertilising etc

In other screens around IG Pro the possibilities are endless!

Will that information be from the plant profile?

To be honest that is all the info I fill in, so for me it would be very usefull for the labels.

Yes Malcolm, that data will be extractable from the data you enter in the plant profile screen - GA100S36.

When you are sitting about with nothing to so sometime ( ::)) you can have a read over this:
http://www.ideasgenie.com/uig/cpclassifs.htm
It explains how and where to store loads of information.
That data will also be extractable for the labels we are working with.
