Heres a selection of the photos I took at the Belfast Botanic Gardens recently
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/botanic-gardens/belfast-botanic-gardens/

As you see, I deliberately selected a few unknown plants.
Over to you folk. Can you identify any of the unknown plants?

NightHawk:
A great looking web site George.  Those other web sites you linked to are very informative also.  8)

You've certainly given us all food for thought on those unnamed plants.  Need to think about them.  ;)

Laurie.

I discovered that Friends of the Belfast Botanical Gardens web site when looking for a good link to the gardens.
Ive explored the website in more detail this morning, and I'm really impressed.
You'll find maps of the gardens.

Theres a number of very good links off that web site as well, e.g. to support their campaign to have the Tropical Ravine restored.
I didnt have time to explore the Tropical Ravine, so I need to plant another visit. I walked around the outside and took photos of the planting on the outer borders.
Other parts of the garden to be re-visited:
The Alpine Garden
The Rockery
The Ornamental flower beds

Lyn and Malcolm:

I think unknown plant 5 is Lobelia Pink elephant.

We have one here in the garden.

Wow! I'd say you are absolutely correct!

I dd a surf on the name, and found this web page:
http://www.habitas.org.uk/gardenflora/lobspec.htm

Now,the significant thing here is, that's the web site of the Ulster Museum Sciences Division - the home of the Botanic gardens!

Heres the home page:
http://www.habitas.org.uk/

Among the staff is the Keeper of Botany, Mr Paul Hackney, and his wife, Catherine Tyrie, Curator of Cultivated Plants.
I consulted Paul and Catherine when I was planning the design of my database. They were very helpful, and cleared up a number of questions about plants and plant names, and their proper naming.
Heres a very informative web page, and this is where I started.
http://www.habitas.org.uk/gardenflora/taxa.htm
As they say, the rest is history  :)

I contacted Paul during the week past to ask if he'd like a demo of the finished article, and I'm pleased to say the reply was "Yes".
I also sent him a link to this new web site (and the forum).

OK, back to the plant - it looks like its a living specimen of one of the plants featured on their web site, so its possible that the others may be there as well!
Theres a lot of information in there.

Thats fantastic Malcolm. I'm delighted to have a positive ID on the plant.
Now, another question. How does it do in your garden? Is it a "good un" ??
