External DVD Rewriter

(1/2) > >>

Palustris:
The DVD writer on my Tower is now chewing up discs instead of writing to them. The SSD is almost full so I need to empty out the Photos on to DVD's fairly quickly.
I could take the machine in and have a new Writer fitted, but that would take a week and is rather more expensive. Not capable of doing it myself either.
So question is, can I use a Samsung SE-218BB Rewriter with a Windows 7 PC? And is it any good? If not then what? And what kind of DVD's does it use?
TIA

barryl:
From what I read it supports windows XP and above and should take any CD or DVD. Looks like a neat and compact device.

Since it is USB2.0 it will be slower than an internal DVD writer but that may not be important to you

Palustris:
Thanks. I also need to redo all my Car music CDs as they are getting 'past it'.
Everyone else has suggested getting an external HDD drive, but that does not address the portability issue. I send George DVD's of plant pictures for the Database.

ideasguy:
I would also recommend you use an external device e.g. a Flash Drive.
They are fairly inexpensive.
I will send you one and we can use it for the plant photos which you send to me.

I recommend you buy one of these:
Samsung M3 1TB USB 3.0 Slimline Portable Hard Drive
I use that device for everything important!
It goes with me when I leave the house.

Heres an example of the price:

Bit hard to send that through the post though, and it certainly would not be much use in the car for music!!
And after all that the dratted machine has worked perfickly this morning. Managed to do four DVD's without a hitch.  Bit slow, but then the Writer was never fast. Freed up enough space on the SDD to take some more pictures. Youngest daughter's wedding here we come.
