Multiple Databases & other
« on: February 17, 2014, 02:47:05 PM »
I've only had Bank Genie about 1 month and I'm still getting used to it (after 15 years with Money 98). I have 3 databases: home accounts, a charity and a sports club. Bank Genie always opens in the charity, how can I get it to open in the home account?
I miss the cash flow chart in Money. I haven't found anything similar in Bank Genie. Am I missing something?

Answering the first question, when you open a database thre is a checkbox "make this my startup folder". click in that and it will open automatically next time.

Hi John, and welcome to the forum!
You have made good progress setting up those three databases.

Barry has answered your first question.
One further tip on that:-
If the Make this my START UP folder button is not visible when opening a database, go to Setup tab on menu and click Preferences.
In Preferences, look for the Checkbox Advanced User.
Check that and Save Changes.
Now when you use the program Open another Database, the Make this my START UP folder button will be visible.

This is described (with screenshots) in this section of the  User Guide:-

A tip in relation to your second question on Cash Flow.

Under Transactions Tab, use the program Process Standing Orders (BS429).
Have a look at this screenshot (from the User Guide for BS429
http://www.bankgenie.net/UserGuide/429/bs429s01-1.gif

In particular, look at the Date Picker and Refresh buttons.
Use the Date picker (top right region of screen) and select a date in the future (I set it to about 6 weeks in advance).
Click the Refresh button.
Process all your pending Standing Orders.
Now use the program Transactions (tab) Manage Transactions (BS421).
The program will display a running balance as shown in this screenshot (from the User Guide for BS421)
http://www.bankgenie.net/UserGuide/bs421s01-1.gif
You can Exclude (temporarily of course) any transactions which may cause clutter (I don't).
Right click on the Exclude button and read up the User Guide notes and screenshots, in particular the Reconciling process.
Does that help?

A forum Tip for you John:
Please choose the option to Log in "Forever".
That way you wont be logged out just when you are about to post a message, having spent valuable time writing it!
Also (an appeal to all members) please don't log out.
It lets others see there is activity here. Nobody wants to "talk" when its an empty house ;D
