Mouse's Cupboard, Burley, New Forest

(1/1)

NightHawk:
Came across these photos in my album from a walk we did here last year.

It's in the Burley area of the New Forest called Mouse's Cupboard, which is south of Soarley Bottom and northeast of Berry Wood.

From the angle in Photo 1 and Photo 2, you can see a very large hole in one side, which extends from the ground to a height of about 5 feet.  The tree is not dead, but still growing strongly.

The remaining sides are fully intact.  You can actually climb inside the tree and stand fully upright (Photo 3).  You can look up for two to three more feet, and apart from a couple of small holes from detached branches the tree becomes solid again.

Photo 1 - tree showing its forest setting.

Photo 2 - close-up of hole.

Photo 3 - view looking up from inside the tree.

That's some cupboard Laurie 8)

Great photos. As I scrolled down to Photo 3 I was expecting to see you or Kathy inside that remarkable sculpture by nature.

Or was it sculpted by nature? :o
Did they have a "Beware of the mouse" sign?  :D

I may just take that shot if we visit there again  ;)

Definitely sculpted by nature.

I hope not.  It would be a pretty big mouse, which I most definitely would not wish to meet  :D
