On our way back from a visit to Salisbury, we came back along Bolderwood Ornamental Drive in the New Forest.

Whilst taking photos of some more unusual trees (posted in another section of the Forum) I got some more shots of the New Forest ponies.

Just as we arrived at the Barrow Moor car park there was a pony grazing by the side of the road.  Not long after it started to rain.

The pony was smart and decided to take cover under a tree in front of our car ...

The next photo is of some of his friends, also sheltering from the rain.

It was just a brief shower, the sun came out again and they emerged into the open.

Thanks Eric.

The 'drift' (pony round-up) I mentioned earlier in this section is now under way in various areas of the New Forest.

If I come across one I'll try to get some photos at a safe distance.  People stopping to watch them can be a problem and interferes with the round-up, so the practice is discouraged.
