That test is working perfectly!

Good idea Monica. Currently 20C with you. We managed to get up to 15 last week but the temps have plummeted again.
Now its a challenge for us to post our respective weather status on the forum

I had to strip out some of the superfluous code to get the gizmo under the 300 characters. It's quite tasteful, but doesn't give as much info and, even worse, it doesn't give even a.m./p.m. on time.

I'm going to "stick" with the weather sticker -- there's more info.

From the notes on using the sticker I've discovered that the time showing on the sticker isn't the actual time (dynamic). It's the "observed" time -- so if the airport station only updates once an hour, the same time will show for a whole hour until the airport updates its station.

Stilll useful though.

Oddly, the first two, either English or Metric, show Bournemouth airport. If you scroll down to English/Metric weather sticker, the third one down, it showed St Leonard's and St Ive's, totally different than when I looked at it an hour ago! Wow, it just turned back to Bournemouth in the last two minutes! Anyway, copy the entire HTML source code of whichever one of the three you want to your signature on the profile page (if you always want it to show on a post). I checked it and it is under the 300 character max allowed, but only by 1 character.

For the weather sticker, one is using raw HTML source code, not just a hyperlink to the site. If you look at the source code you'll see that there is a "built-in" reference to the URL of the Weather Underground site.

The final product:

Thank you Monica for the info.
I have removed my previous post and as you can see I have used the weather gizmo in my signature.
Bournemouth Airport is only about a mile and a half as the crow flies from here, and has much the same night temperature as us, of course the nearer you go towards Bournemouth and the beach, the higher the temperature will be.
Will probably enter it on our website home page as well.

As this weather banner that Monica suggested seems to be becoming popular, I have increased the allowable character length in the Signature section of our members' profiles (from 300 to 460).

This will allow for the weather banners' HTML coding length of approx 296 characters to be included along with the normal signature where used.

Our Bananas would be growing at a good rate given that temperature. For a while yet they are still under protection, and growing very slowly, enough for me to have to cut a little off the tops so they don't push the roof off.

I think this is a great idea that Monica has introduced.

I know she's very keen to keep an eye on the weather patterns, and having the ability to show our local weather conditions in our signatures means that we can all see at a glance what's happening with our members around the world (providing they're posting on the Forum and they have the banner coding too

)

I guess this is a question for Laurie or George: Would it make sense for me to do a new topic called "add a weather sticker to your signature"? It then would specifically refer to a "how to" as I would go through the steps for people who aren't used to doing this procedure?

Malcolm, I was just out cutting down the bananas mushed in our January Big Freeze -- one has put up a new little shoot, but it will take a while to get them back to their original height. If you can believe it, we're actually experiencing below normal temps for this time of year.

Now that is a very valid point, Eric, for those (like you) on dial up.

Try this Eric:
Go into your forum profile
Click Look and Layout preferences
Click the checkbox (to set on) Don't show users' signatures

The banners will not be shown as the members are putting them in their signatures
Does that work for you?
