John Cushnie
« on: December 31, 2009, 11:36:44 PM »
My sister phoned this evening with very bad news.
Her husbands cousin, John Cushnie died suddenly this morning.

John had been outside working around the house and garden, came in, sat at the computer and passed away.
He is a very popular figure in Northern Ireland and his casual and friendly manner made his gardening programs a pleasure for us all.

John was 66. My sincere sympathy goes out to the family circle.

Here's a few links about John:

John was also a popular voice on BBC radio 'Gardener's Question Time' George. A very sad loss at such an early age too. His sonorous voice and down to earth advice will be very much missed I'm sure.

I wasn't sure if that program was broadcast nationwide, Trevor. There are lots of practical tips on those programs and John made it all sound easy.
He was one of the old school! I was introduced to him by my sister and her husband (his cousin and same surname)
John was in fine form. I brought a slip of a plant along for identification and he was able to tell me what it was immediately.
My sister told him about Ideas Genie. Like so many people in those days, he didn't see why anyone needed a computer program for plants! When I heard the bad news yesterday, I was rather surprised to find that he had a computer!
I can well understand that he would not have had a lot of time to spend on it.
