The Van
« on: April 22, 2009, 08:40:54 PM »

As mentioned in another post, re the van breaking down.

The garage rang this afternoon to say the cam belt had not broken :)
But although the belt and tensioners were ok, somehow the belt had slipped some cogs on the diesel injector pump, so of course the timing of that would be haywire.
They had never seen this happen before :'(
The pump has been removed and tested at a specialist, and returned as no fault found. It has been fitted back onto the engine, and the old belt fitted and just run for 20seconds as there are no oil/water pipes on the engine at the moment, and the engine ran fine. So no major damage done.
A new belt and tensioners are to be fitted, and the engine tested properly, I await a phone call to give the result.

That is very good news Malcolm. I can imagine how relieved you are.

I was thinking about you when I heard the announcement on the news about the trade ins for 10 year old vans.
I was going to suggest you batter it about a bit to make it look as if it met the specifications! It sounded like the engine didnt need much work done to it to qualify!

Great news.
